Semi Trucking Crashes
Semi-truck crashes, also known as truck accidents, or collisions involving commercial trucks, can be serious due to the size and weight of these vehicles. San Diego is home to four major interstate freeways and six state highways, making it a hot spot for many big rig vehicles transporting heavy cargo.
San Diego roads see thousands of trucks that can weigh 20 to 30 times more than passenger vehicles daily. Due to their weight and size, semi-trucks cannot maneuver or stop as quickly as a smaller passenger vehicle.
According to the US Department of transportation, a fully loaded truck traveling under good conditions at highway speeds requires a distance of almost two football fields to stop.
Many semi collisions occur in stop-and-go traffic, and even a low-speed rear end can result in catastrophic injuries due to the sheer weight of the truck.
